Design as Art by Bruno Munari

book

bookmark (H&M tag)

book & bookmark

the function follows the form

this time, the bookmark doesn't really have anything to do with the book except that it's a thin sturdy card that does the job well. or if it's considered visually the bright warm yellow and black smart typography matches a delicate design book quite well. using a conceptual art artist statement approach i could perhaps give a million reasons, but no, really, it was just out of convenience. allow my laze for not picking/making a special bookmark every time.

sometimes i feel a bit hypocritical for book & bookmark, cos small random cards are always the best bookmarks. unique ones specifically for single books make us happy maybe, but i also enjoy utilising scraps with ease. for example i have this Issey Miyake perfume strip that barely relates to the Hearts in Atlantis that i'm forever reading (now i'm not sure which is more embarrassing, revealing my lack of care in choosing bookmarks, the fact that i'm reading Stephen King, or that i'm reading it forever), and i feel perfectly fine as the little paper grows old and creasy with the yellowing book and it sits snugly inside. reading is the main fun: other matters, no big deal.
